A likely deal between the Rockets and Marcus Smart is yet another pairing that
was first reported by The Stein Line last weekend.

If the Rockets want to sign Smart to a three-year deal and retain restricted f
ree agent Tari Eason, then Houston is going to have to move some money around
to make the needed salary cap math work.
Sources say that the Rockets have thus engaged several teams in trade discussi
ons in recent days to try to offload Dorian Finney-Smith and clear the way to
furnish Smart with a multiyear offer expected to land in the $7 million range
in annual average value.
Without trading Finney-Smith. Houston would still be able to sign Smart to a t
wo-year deal valued at an estimated $13 million. The 32-year-old became an unr
estricted free agent by casting aside a $5.4 million player option with the La
kers for next season.
