The Los Angeles Lakers have interest this offseason in a number of big men
including Mitchell Robinson and Robert Williams III as they hit free agency.
The Lakers have also inquired with the Oklahoma City Thunder about a trade for
Lu Dort.
The Thunder hold a $17.2 million player option on Dort for the 2026-27 season.
The Thunder have luxury tax and apron concerns this coming season as the new
contracts for Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren hit their cap sheet. The Lakers
have a major need for defensive players to surround Luka Doncic and Austin
Reaves with Dort being one of the NBA's better wing stoppers.
Robinson and Williams are each free agent centers that would pair well with
Doncic. Both the New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers are interested in
re-signing their respective big men. Both Robinson and Williams have had
durability concerns during their careers.
Depending on whether the Lakers plan to re-sign Reaves, LeBron James, Rui
Hachimura and Luke Kennard, it may be easier for them to improve their roster
via trade rather than outright free agency.
