Overworked as a high school pitcher in Taiwan, Liu took two years off from the m
ound and concentrated on playing shortstop at Culture University. He resumed pit
ched in 2019, hit 98 mph with his fastball and won MVP honors at the Asian Baseb
all Championship after leading Chinese Taipei to its first championship in eight
years. The Red Sox signed him for $750,001 after previously scouting him as an
infielder and getting to know him via his relationship with former Boston infiel
der Tzu-Wei Lin.
Liu lacked training resources during the 2020 pandemic layoff and his velocity w
as down in instructional league that fall and inconsistent in his pro debut last
summer. His four-seam fastball ranged from 92-96 mph at times and 90-94 at othe
rs, showing some promising carry up in the zone. He arrived in the United States
with six pitches, and the Red Sox have had to simplify things by focusing on hi
s heater, a mid-80s slider that he can land for strikes or use as a chase pitch
and a deceptive low-90s changeup with fade.
Liu also has a curveball, cutter and splitter in his arsenal if he needs another
option. He's more athletic than physical, but he repeats his easy delivery and
throws strikes. His size, repertoire and pitchability prompted comparisons to Jo
sé Berrios in the past, but he'll have to prove he can maintain quality stuff o
ver a full season to live up to that.

模板通常不容易達到，如果能升上去當個5號先發甚至是常駐牛棚就很棒了過去真正能站穩mlb的也只有王郭殷
